A Shasta County judge has declared an agreement between the Board of Supervisors and the Redding Rancheria illegal.
The 30-year intergovernmental agreement, approved in 2023, was intended for the county to provide law enforcement, fire and emergency services for a proposed new casino and event center.
In a summary decision, Judge Stephen Baker stated that negotiations for the agreement were conducted without the knowledge of the impacted departments, including the sheriff, fire chief and district attorney.
“The agreement was not reviewed by the county counsel’s office and risk management,” said Judge Baker. He added that county staff, the sheriff, the fire chief, the district attorney and the acting county counsel all opposed the agreement.
