A coalition of California cardrooms has filed to block new regulations that they say will financially devastate the industry.
The dispute centers on whether cardrooms are offering games that function too similarly to traditional casino games, which are restricted to tribal casinos under California law.
The California Gaming Association is leading the effort to block new California Department of Justice rules that would ban blackjack from being offered at cardrooms and would crack down on third-party providers for the player-dealer position.
The association is seeking a preliminary injunction from the San Francisco Superior Court to pause the rules from taking effect on April 1.
