Filipino billionaire Lance Gokongwei – the President and CEO of local conglomerate JG Summit Holdings whose interests include NUSTAR Resort Cebu – is set to make a personal investment into rising gaming technology firm PhilWeb.
According to information first reported by Philippines media outlet InsiderPH and verified by Inside Asian Gaming, Gokongwei will invest Php2 billion (US$32.6 million) for 10% of PhilWeb’s common shares and a 5% stake via convertible preferred shares. The investment will be personal and not through either JG Summit Holdings nor any of its affiliates, including NUSTAR’s immediate parent company Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc.
It is notable, however, that PhilWeb recently announced NUSTAR Online as the first client of its new game content distribution and aggregation business which recently received B2B accreditation under regulator PAGCOR’s framework.
