Shares in the owner of Mecca Bingo have been knocked after it revealed that its Spanish business fell victim to a multimillion-euro payment fraud.
The Rank Group told investors that it had been working with the police after discovering its Spanish brands Enracha and Yo were hit by a fraud worth an aggregate €7.1 million [$8.4 million]. The FTSE 250 company has also hired an external law firm to carry out an internal review.
Its shares closed down by 5p, or 4.7 per cent, at 100½p [$1.18].
Rank owns the Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo brands, with a total of 112 venues across the UK, and it also operates an online business.
