Groupe Lucien Barrière has bought the Póvoa de Varzim casino in northern Portugal, a few kilometers from Porto.

The Portuguese government has granted the group the concession for this establishment, effective May 1, 2026. The casino was previously operated by the Portuguese group Estoril-Sol, which did not submit a bid for its successor, leaving the field open to the French operator.

The Barrière group plans to undertake a comprehensive transformation of the Póvoa site, with a holistic approach focused on upgrading the casino and diversifying its revenue streams. The operator anticipates a gradual modernization of the gaming offerings, both slot machines and table games, to bring the casino in line with its international standards.
