A former Baltimore city solicitor praised the lawsuit the city filed in April against DraftKings and FanDuel, noting it’s a novel legal approach, which relies on a city law that safeguards consumers from deceptive marketing.
“It’s exactly the kind of creative and imaginative lawyering needed to protect city residents, especially those with well-known vulnerabilities, such as a gambling addiction,” Andre M. Davis, the city solicitor from 2017 to 2020, and a former federal appellate judge, told The Baltimore Sun.
“As with opioids, a gambling addiction is a mental disorder that can seriously undermine an individual’s ability to lead their best and most productive life,” he said.
