B-52s reignite their retro revelry as residency returns to the Venetian

The Venetian Theatre is hardly “set way back in the middle of a field.”

The opulent 1,800-seat venue, which opened in 2006, was originally designed for performances of “Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular,” a version of the famous stage production “Phantom of the Opera.” So calling it a “funky little shack” pretty much misses the mark too.

But with the legendary B-52s back in town to resume an ongoing residency, thrift-store kitsch is ruling over the Venetian, one of the swankiest casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.

Founded in 1976 in an Athens, Ga., Chinese restaurant, the band is still going strong nearly 50 years later with three of its five original members.
