In a good month, things start to get tight food-wise after two weeks for Laurie O’Sullivan, who relies on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to help keep food on the table.

Recently, with the federal government shutdown, she had to go without those benefits for several weeks right before Thanksgiving.

On Wednesday, she was one of 80 people lined up in the rain in a parking lot on Wellington Avenue for a food distribution hosted by the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

What was special about this event was that it was staffed by top executives of many of Atlantic City’s casinos and their employees, handing out fresh produce, baked goods and frozen meat to recipients in a downpour that none of the customers seemed to mind.
