The GAA, charities, and other charitable organisations are to be given “flexibility” under new laws regulating gambling.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee obtained Government approval for amendments to the Gambling Regulation Bill 2022, which has been the subject of extensive lobbying.
Measures under the proposed gambling law include: a ban on advertising during the day; the establishment of a social impact fund to support problem gambling initiatives; [and] the creation of the country’s first gambling regulator with sweeping powers in the sector.
The proposed amendments will allow the law sufficient flexibility for philanthropic organisations such as the GAA, charities, and other not-for-profit organisations.
