When Alberta launched its regulated iGaming market in mid-July, it pledged one per cent of revenues would be reserved for addiction treatment.
On Thursday, the province announced $2.4 million [US$1.7 million] in funding to Brick House Recovery Centre, which has locations in Edmonton and Calgary and offers virtual support to clients across the province. The money will go to enhance treatment and recovery programs for problem gamblers.
“We are committed to helping individuals and families affected by gambling addiction access high-quality, recovery-focused care,” said Dr. Lovneet Hayer, co-founder of the Brick House Recovery Centre, in a news release. “Our goal is to offer hope, practical support and a path toward lasting recovery.”
