AGEM issues call for nominations for Halle and Mead memorial awards

The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Friday issued a call for nominations for  the Jens Halle Memorial Award Honoring Excellence in Commercial Gaming Professionalism, and the Peter Mead Memorial Award Honoring Excellence in Gaming Media & Communications.

The awards were created six years ago by AGEM to honor the impacts on gaming made by Halle and Mead following their deaths in 2015.

Halle was an executive for Bally and Novomatic in Europe, and CEO of Merkur Gaming in Florida when he passed away died suddenly in 2015 at the age of 57. Mead, the founder and publisher of Casino Enterprise Management magazine, died in Las Vegas in 2015 at the age of 54.

For the Jens Halle Memorial Award, nominees must have experience working in the global gaming supplier sector for a minimum of 10 years. They should possess traits and qualities that Halle displayed including professionalism; business success; international scope; attention to detail and timely follow-up; a willingness to go the extra mile figuratively and literally; a sense of humanity in an oft-times cutthroat business; a recognition of the importance of a handshake and a fair deal for all; and a dedication to the health of the industry as a whole.

Nominees for the Peter Mead Memorial Award must have experience working in the mainstream media, gaming trade press or individual gaming company public relations/communications for a minimum of 10 years. They should possess traits and qualities that Mead displayed including quality reporting and communication with an emphasis on personal contact to generate ideas and gather information; taking risks and questioning the status quo; challenging the industry to consider new ideas; and identifying trusted partners to improve the overall product.

Previous winners of the Jens Halle Memorial Award: Len Ainsworth, 2016; Rick Meitzler, 2017; Gavin Isaacs, 2018; Tom Nieman, 2019; the late Robert “Bob” McMonigle, 2020; Sebastian Salat, 2021; and Roy Student, 2022.

Recipients of the Peter Mead Memorial Award: Howard Stutz, 2016; Roger Gros, 2017; Frank Legato, 2018; the late Dave Palermo, 2019; David Orrick, 2020; Alan Feldman, 2021; and Frank Fantini, 2022.

Nomination submissions of 300-700 original words identifying current gaming professionals must be received via email by Daron.Dorsey@AGEM.org by Aug. 31, 2023.
