SALAMANCA, N.Y. (AP) — The Seneca Indian Nation is set to elect a new president.
Members of the western New York nation will vote Tuesday for one of three candidates: Treasurer Todd Gates, One Nation Party Chairman J.C. Seneca and independent Sally Snow.
The current president, Maurice John, is running for treasurer against Darlene Miller. The Seneca constitution prohibits the president from holding consecutive two-year terms.
The 8,000-member tribe’s three western New York casinos make it one of the region’s largest employers.
The presidency rotates every term between the nation’s Allegany (al-leh-GAY’-nee) and Cattaraugus (kat-uh-RAW’-gus) territories.
