The DC Lottery has reported that sports betting handle in September for the lottery-backed platform GambetDC was just more than $826,000, down $40,000 from August, while wagers increased from 38,383 in August to 38,963 in September.
After FanDuel’s takeover as the DC Lottery’s official online sports betting partner in April, the GambetDC online platform shut down on April 14. Therefore, the sports betting handle numbers since then have only accounted for wagers placed through GambetDC lottery terminals across the district in bars and other licensed locations.
The shift in sports betting handle has been significant for the DC Lottery. The month ending March 31 was the last whole month of online sports betting provided by GambetDC in Washington, D.C. GambetDC saw a handle of more than $6.8 million. The September total marks a nearly 88 percent decrease from this figure.
Washington, D.C., saw significant changes to its sports betting market in 2024. FanDuel took over as the official betting partner of the DC Lottery, and new sports betting regulations allowed all online sportsbooks to provide betting district-wide for the first time. Additionally, DraftKings Sportsbook launched.
