The University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ International Gaming Institute on Wednesday announced the Responsible Online Gaming Association as a founding member of its AI Research Hub. The initiative marks a step toward leveraging artificial intelligence to support players and identify advanced responsible gaming practices.
According to a news release, AiR Hub will serve as a central focal point for research, focusing on producing research projects and insights across gaming’s AI use cases, with a goal of informing best practices for responsible gaming in the age of AI. AiR Hub aims to be the industry’s ecosystem for AI research and serve as a catalyst for accelerating the adoption of trusted and responsible AI in the field.
Outputs from this initiative will also address the growing interest from policymakers regarding AI’s role across the sector and its increasing adoption to support risk identification and responsible gaming.
“ROGA is committed to innovative responsible gaming solutions that support players and help ensure their gaming experience remains fun and recreational. AI can help us to proactively identify ways to strengthen these programs, including increasing engagement with responsible gaming resources by personalizing tools that will resonate with each individual player,” ROGA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Shatley said in a statement. “Our collaboration with UNLV’s International Gaming Institute will provide the critical research and insights necessary to develop evidence-based strategies for these exciting advancements in responsible gaming.”
Shatley will serve on AiR Hub’s Industry Advisory Panel, playing a central role in informing research priorities and ensuring alignment with industry needs. The advisory panel will be an integral component of AiR Hub’s transparent governance framework that seeks to support stakeholder collaboration – including industry, academia, regulators, and support sectors – while maintaining research integrity. The research hopefully will be novel, relevant, and impactful, initially focusing on the most pressing business and societal issues in the industry.
“UNLV International Gaming Institute has a long history of pioneering research in the gaming sector, and we are excited to have ROGA as a collaborator for this crucial initiative,” said UNLV International Gaming Institute Director of Research and co-founder of AiR Hub Dr. Kasra Ghaharian. “Having ROGA as a founding member is especially meaningful, as it supports one of the Hub’s core objectives, that is, to positively influence the trajectory of responsible gaming in the age of AI.”
The release also stated the collaboration intends to ensure that AI is leveraged responsibly to enhance the player experience and equip the industry with practical tools and knowledge for implementing effective responsible gaming practices.
