National

Total igaming revenue for January 2022 in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Delaware added up to $394 million, an increase of 2.8%, spread across all states, over December’s $383.2 million.

New Jersey

For the 11th month in a row, revenue earned from online-casino gambling in New Jersey topped $100 million. The $137.8 million generated by the casinos in January 2022 also set a new monthly record for the state, surpassing the previous one of $133.2 million set in December by 4.4%.

Borgata/BetMGM led the pack once again with a $39.1 million win, an increase of 6.5% over December’s $37.1 million, while second-place Golden Nugget Online Gaming came in at $36.5 million, 1.4% higher than the $36 million of the previous month. Third-place Resorts Digital closed the gap a bit, earning $33 million, a 3.1% rise from the $32 million in December.

New Jersey collected $21.4 million in taxes for the month, 6.6% higher than the $20 million in December.

Michigan

Michigan’s online casinos generated $121.2 million in January, a slight half-percent drop from December’s record revenue of $121.8 million. However, it was the fifth month in a row that Michigan generated more than $100 million in igaming revenue.

Same as in New Jersey, BetMGM remains the board leader with $43.9 million, down 5.5% from December’s $46 million. Second-place DraftKings (Bay Mills) earned $20.1 million, with no gain or loss month over month.

Michigan’s 14 online casino operators paid $19.1 million in taxes to the state, down a substantial 15.5% from December’s $22.6 million. Only $5.9 million was delivered to Detroit from its three igaming operations, down 7.9% from December’s $6.4 million, and $2.2 million (essentially the same as the previous two months) was collected by tribal governments.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s online gaming revenue in January of $108.3 million was 5.8% more than December’s $102.1 million.

Total revenue from online slots, $71.8 million, was up 4.2% over December’s $68.8 million. Online table games earned $33.1 million, an increase of 8.5% from the previous month’s $30.3 million. Online poker’s $3.4 million jumped 12.2% from December’s $3.1 million.

Penn National Gaming continued to hold its perch at the top of the list with a gross of $41.2 million, an increase of 2.7% month over month, while second-place Rivers Casino Pennsylvania’s $27.4 million was a rise of 4.8% over December’s $26.1 million.

Pennsylvania collected a record 44.6% in taxes, a 4.8% jump over the previous month’s $42.5 million.

West Virginia

For the four-week period between January 2 and 29, West Virginia reported $6.8 million in igaming revenue, a significant drop of 21.3% over the previous month. It’s never an apples-to-apples monthly comparison, however, and December’s reporting period went for five weeks, from November 28 to January 1. Still, igaming in West Virginia has earned at least $1 million now in 29 consecutive weeks.

Connecticut

In its third full month of igaming, Connecticut’s two operators earned $18.8 million, setting the third record since online casinos launched in the Constitution State; it was a 13.3% increase over December’s record $16.3 million.

DraftKings (Foxwoods) dominated the igaming vertical, with $13.7 million, for a 72.8% market share.

DraftKings and FanDuel, the other operator, paid $3.4 million in taxes to the state, a 14.7% increase over December’s $2.9 million.

Delaware

Delaware’s January igaming revenue of $1.1 million increased by 4.5% over December, setting a new record and recording the second month in a row of revenue higher than $1 million.

Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at $900,293, higher by 8.5% than December’s $823,386, while table games generated $179,584, down by nearly 19% from December’s $221,215. Online poker revenue dropped to $41,468, a 3.8% decline from the previous month’s $43,069.
