Jim McGlasson, Advertising Manager for CDC Gaming, stopped by Tropicana on the historic casino’s last day of business, April 2, 2024, two days short of its 67th birthday, to snap some last shots of the building, the customers, and the employees spending one last day under Tropicana’s roof. The Strip’s third-oldest casino is now shut down for good as of noon today, with demolition slated for October to make room for a $1.5 billion stadium for the Oakland Athletics.

Sean Connery, in his role as James Bond in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever, said “I hear that the Hotel Tropicana is quite comfortable.”

The casino is known for its 4,250 sq ft stained glass ceiling, designed by Tony DeVroudes, atop the casino floor. It was constructed in 1979 and installed at a cost of $1 million, the equivalent of $4.54 million today.
