The South Dakota Department of Gaming reported $13.5 million in statistical win from slot machines and table games in October, down from $12.8 million in October 2023, while the state’s retail sportsbooks generated more than $45,000 in revenue in October, a drop of 73.8 percent from October 2023’s nearly $175,000.

Total statistical win from slots, table games and sportsbooks in October was $13.6 million, generating about $1.1 million in taxes, compared to $12.9 million in statistical win and $1.1 million in taxes in October 2023.

Sports betting handle in October also dropped from $1 million to around $915,000. NFL was the most bet on sporting event in October, attracting nearly $408,000 in wagers. That’s no surprise, given a Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort representative recently declared how much the casino was generating in NFL wagers in September.

However, the state’s sportsbooks lost more than $35,000 from NFL betting. In October, three other sports generated negative revenues for statewide sportsbooks: Formula 1, Major League Baseball and PGA golf. However, these sports each created a loss of less than $2,000.

The largest revenue generator was NCAA football, which brought in more than $47,000 for state sportsbooks, more than the final total of revenue generated when including losses.
