The San Manuel Casino in Southern California added to its management team Tuesday, part of the resort’s $550 million expansion plan that includes a new hotel tower and other amenities.
The resort – owned by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians – named Peter Arceo as chief operating officer and hired Rikki Tanenbaum as chief marketing officer. Arceo has been the resort’s chief marketing officer since 2015. He worked for Indian casinos in Arizona before joining San Manuel.
Tanenbaum has led marketing efforts for various casino and gaming companies, including MGM Resorts International, Penn National Gaming and the Viejas Casino in San Diego.
San Manuel Casino General Manager Loren Gill said the property’s planned hotel expansion – ground was broken last month – along with the addition of new amenities necessitated the need for additional senior management.
San Manuel has a casino floor with 4,800 slot machines and a variety of table games. The property has multiple casual and fine dining restaurants. In a statement, the tribe said the goal of the expansion was for San Manuel to become a top entertainment destination in the ultra-competitive Southern California casino resort industry. In addition to the hotel, the expansion includes a 3,000-seat entertainment venue, pool complex, spa and restaurants.
Gill told the San Diego Union-Tribune in July the hotel was needed to attract new customers from throughout Southern California, plus keep current guests from going somewhere else.
“San Manuel has always been a locals and regional casino and we don’t have a hotel. … It’s something very obviously missing from our casino experience,” Gill said.
