Cashless slot gaming took another step forward Monday when Scientific Games and International Game Technology (IGT) announced a cross-licensing agreement. Under the agreement, Scientific Games and IGT will offer patented cashless gaming technologies from their combined casino management systems portfolios to US gaming operators.
“This new program allows SG and IGT to combine our leading IP for the benefit of our customers, and our industry,” said Scientific Games CEO Matt Wilson. “Consumers are increasingly comfortable using cashless technology, and they will continue to expect this option to be available on the floor. We’re excited to partner with IGT to make it easier for operators to deliver for their players.”
Combining features from the companies’ portfolios will provide more options for gaming operators as the industry increasingly embraces cashless technology. Last year, the American Gaming Association issued a call for regulators to make cashless payment options more accessible for gamblers.
“Cashless gaming is here to stay,” said Renato Ascoli, IGT CEO, “and this strong portfolio of cashless IP can help casino operators ensure the safety of players by reducing cash handling and points of contact with slot games, while considerably improving casino operating efficiencies.”
The agreement with Scientific Games is IGT’s second deal within two weeks involving cashless gaming technology. On Feb. 16, IGT and Global Payments Gaming Solutions announced expansion of a prior agreement to provide a range of cashless funding solutions across IGT’s portfolio of products
