The San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority and Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas Tuesday announced grants totaling  $100,000 to four local organizations. Each organization received $25,000 to support programs that align with the SMGHA’s mission of uplifting communities through education, cultural preservation, and empowerment.

The grants were awarded to the Springs Preserve Foundation, to preserve the Ethnobotanical Garden and support related programming; the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada to support the Children’s Attorneys Project that provides legal aid to vulnerable youth; the Clark County School District to advance the Indian Education Opportunities Program supporting Native American students; and the Society of American Indian Dentists to fund scholarships for Native American students pursuing dental school education.

“These organizations embody the values and pillars that drive SMGHA’s mission—education, empowerment, community resilience, and cultural preservation,” said SMGHA Chairperson Latisha Prieto in a statement. “Through these grants, we are committed to fulfilling our legacy and aspiring to be a community leader for positive social change. This commitment is guided by The Spirit of Yawa’—to act on one’s beliefs—and inspires us to contribute meaningfully to the Las Vegas community and the organizations working to create a better tomorrow.”

The San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority is run by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
