Peru President Francisco Sagasti has ordered most of the country’s casinos and slot halls to shut again from January 31 as the number of COVID-related deaths hit 40,107.
After the Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities, daily infections increased from 1,000 to more than 5,000.
Casinos located in the extreme and very high levels must shut completely whilst those in high level can operate at a capacity of 30 per cent and can only be open between 9 and 4. Gaming properties in Lima Region, Lima Metropolitana, Callao, Áncash, Pasco, Huánuco, Junín, Huancavelica, Ica, Apurímac, Tumbes, Amazonas, Cajamarca, Ayacucho, Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna must all close.
