Pittsburgh Steelers legend and Vietnam War veteran Rocky Bleier is set to speak at the ‘Live! in the Community’ lecture series, which will debut on May 10 at the Live! Casino Pittsburgh venue in Greensburg.
To honor National Military Appreciation Month, which is commemorated in May, Live! Casino Pittsburgh is holding a lecture series to celebrate the courage and sacrifice of those who are serving the nation and those who have served in the past. The lectures will aim to foster a deeper understanding and connection within the community by sharing inspiring stories and honoring armed forces veterans and personnel.
Bleier will be the first speaker of the series, sharing his journey from the battlefields of Vietnam to the NFL. Bleier was drafted by the Steelers in 1968, but shortly after joined the 196th Light Infantry Brigade in South Vietnam, where he served until 1970. Bleier was wounded in battle and awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
After his discharge in 1970, he rejoined the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, and despite the pain and injuries that led doctors to tell him he could never play again, Bleier went on to become one of the team’s star running backs, playing for 10 years and winning four Super Bowls with the team.
During the same weekend as the lecture series, the casino will host a regional conference that will focus on diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
