Pennsylvania continues to break gaming revenue records.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Wednesday reported a revenue of $423.7 million from all forms of gaming for July. It’s the fourth out of the last five months the commonwealth has broken the $400 million mark and reached a new revenue record.

That streak was broken in June when revenue dipped to $388.9 million.

“There can certainly be circumstances beyond control that could cause downturns in individual sectors of legalized gaming,” said PGCB Communications Director Doug Harbach via email, “but the July numbers certainly show a robust market, in particular the return of patrons to casinos.”

In comparing revenue to the previous year, the PGCB noted that due to COVID-19 restrictions, casinos were required to operate at reduced capacity. Also in 2020, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh was closed from July 3-9, and Rivers Casino Philadelphia was closed July 1-16.,

Parx Casino in Philadelphia led all Pennsylvania casinos with $64.1 million in revenue, a 7.0% increase from July 2020’s total of $59.8 million. Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantville generated $53.6 million compared to $27.9 million year over year, an increase of 92.5%. Rivers Casino Philadelphia brought in $50.2 million, a 100.5% increase from July 2020’s $25.0 million.

Slot revenue for July was $222.9 million, with Parx Casino generating $38.5 million, Wild Creek Bethlehem bringing in $25.9 million, and patrons at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh wagering $25.3 million.

Statewide, igaming revenue was $88.7 million. Hollywood Casino at Penn National reported $32.1 million in igaming revenue, followed by Rivers Casino Philadelphia, $25.8 million, and Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia with $14.2 million.

The total revenue generated by sports betting was $19.9 million, a decline of 35% from June’s total of $27.5 million. The handle for sports betting in July was $304.4 million, a decrease of 27.6% from the previous month’s $420.2 million.

Valley Forge Casino Resort’s sportsbook, operated by FanDuel, led in both total handle, $108.5 million, and revenue generated, $9.6 million. Meadows Casino & Racetrack in Meadowlands was next with a handle of $67.2 million and revenue of $2.9 million. Hollywood Casino at Penn National’s handle was $24.5 million for July, with revenue of $1.8 million.
