Air passenger counts to Las Vegas continued to taper off in August as the summer travel season wound down. The news comes ahead of Las Vegas tourism officials tentatively scheduled to release their monthly visitation numbers as early as Friday.

Harry Reid International Airport reported Wednesday that 4.56 million passengers passed through in August, a nearly 6% decline from 4.85 million in August 2024. For the year, passenger counts are down 4.5% or about 2.25 million to just shy of 37 million.

The domestic passenger count fell nearly 6% in August, while the international count fell 3.7%. For the year, domestic passenger counts are down 4.8%, international counts down 2%.

With visitation down 8% for the year, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority this week announced deals with its resort partners to attract tourists.

The woes of Spirit Airlines, which has reduced flights, have contributed to domestic decline, with its passenger count down 32% year over year. Southwest Airlines and American Airlines are down 1%. Delta Airlines is flat, United up 2.5%.

Canada continues to plauge Las Vegas visitation on the international front. WestJet’s passenger counts fell 34% in August, while Air Canada fell 40%.

There were increases from Mexican airlines and other parts of the world. KLM rose 46.6%, while Korean Airlines rose 38.8%. British Airways fell 7%, while Virgin Atlantic rose 0.7%.
