The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced it has made CA$33,502,228 in third quarter (Oct. 1 to Dec. 31) installment payments to 29 Ontario communities that host land-based gaming facilities.

“Host municipalities across Ontario gain tangible benefits from the jobs and economic activity fostered by land-based gaming in their community,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “In addition, OLG’s host payments fund critical infrastructure, parks and recreation facilities, and countless local programs and initiatives that help make our communities better places to live, work, and play.”

In total this OLG fiscal year (April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025) so far, CA$115,166,532 has been paid to the 29 communities.

The payments are based on a graduated scale of slot machine revenue and a share of table-game and sportsbook revenue for those sites that offer those gambling options.

Under the agreement, municipalities receive 5.25 percent on the first CA$65 million of slot revenue, 3.0 percent on the next CA$135 million of slot revenue, 2.5 percent on the next CA$300 million of slot revenue, 0.5 percent on the slot revenue above CA$500 million, and 4.0 percent of table game revenue (if applicable), and 4.0 percent of sportsbook revenue (if applicable).

The revenues help support local programs and critical infrastructure, and through that job creation, making a real difference for gaming host municipalities. Since 1994, host communities have received more than CA$2.2 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.

Also, since 2017, CA$2.5 billion in private sector capital has been invested across the province by casino service providers. Those investments have led to the development and launch of seven new casinos, one planned development, numerous casino expansions and non-gaming amenities.
