Octoplay is the latest game-development company to secure a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to operate in the province.

The Malta-based developer is now looking to offer its products to the expanding Ontario online slot market. Ontario-licensed operators can now access Octoplay’s remote game server and diversify their gaming catalogue by offering players a wider range of slot titles, including Pearly Shores, Lolicat, and Bullet Bonanza.

“This is the fourth license we acquired in 2023,” said Octoplay’s Legal Director Martina Borg. “We have been clear about our mission to obtain a license in every single regulated market and this is a testament. To be awarded a license from such a prestigious regulator establishes a strong foothold in North American market.”

The company said in a statement that Ontario is part of a “strategic regulated-market expansion.”

According to iGaming Ontario, in Q2 2023-24 (three months ended Sept. 30), casino games (slots, live and computer-based table games, and peer-to-peer bingo) accounted for almost $11.9 billion (84 percent) of total wagers and 75 percent ($407 million) of gaming revenue.

Octoplay also holds licenses from the Gambling Commission of Great Britain, the Malta Gaming Authority, and the Swedish Gaming Authority.

Currently, 47 licensed igaming operators in Ontario operate 67 online casinos.

“Our slot games are in high demand among players in markets across the world. It’s no surprise that operators want to stock our titles, and that’s why we are working hard to secure licences and approvals in all regulated markets,” said Nick Vuchev, Commercial Director of Octoplay, in a statement. “Securing our Ontario license is a major milestone in this journey.”
