Panels, topics set for National Council of Legislators from Gaming States winter meeting

The National Council of Legislators from Gaming States Wednesday announced the panels that will be highlighted at its Winter Meeting, December 12-15, at Caesar New Orleans in Louisiana.

According to the organization, NCLGS meetings are designed to assist state legislators from across the country establish sound, effective gaming policies. The meetings attract state legislators, regulators, gaming operators and suppliers, attorneys, lobbyists, media and other stakeholders.

The agenda for the Winter Meeting includes:

  • The Committee on Casinos will address the unlicensed and unregulated online sweepstakes casino market in the United States.
  • The Committee on Lottery will discuss how lotteries are modernizing and implementing new technologies to stay competitive.
  • Experts from The South will include the host state of Louisiana and will address the history of gaming in the region, what the future holds, and what other parts of the country can learn from their southern neighbors.
  • A general session will discuss the consequences of the 2024 elections and what to expect in 2025.
  • NCLGS’ Special Committee on Education will explore the intersection of expanded gaming and college and professional sports.
  • An igaming Committee legislative session.
  • The Committee on Responsible Gaming will look at Louisiana’s model and what jurisdictions can learn from the state.
  • The Committee on Pari-Mutuel will debate whether Historical Horse Racing machines and fixed odds are the future of horse racing.
  • The landscape of igaming will be a general session with experts from the United States and around the world. The discussion will include insights on the regulatory challenges of igaming.
  • A Regulator Roundtable will address how states should regulate the different verticals within the gaming industry.
  • The Committee on Emerging Forms of Gaming will include a discussion on how legislation and regulation affect adoption of new technology and have the potential to delay implementation of existing and mature technologies.
  • The Committee on Indian Gaming will examine if the Department of the Interior has given tribal and state legislative leaders the guidance and tools necessary in negotiations on compacts.

All attendees are invited to a Sports Betting Regulators Association meeting on December 13.
