MGM Resorts International tabbed Feb. 1 to make the transition to the MGM Rewards loyalty program at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

MGM completed the acquisition of the operations of the Cosmo in May 2022 for $1.6 billion, but it is taking time to switch from the Identity players club currently in place at the 3,100-room property.

The issue was addressed at the June meeting of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Pat Madamba, senior vice president and legal counsel, reiterated that the Cosmopolitan’s operation system doesn’t communicate with to the MGM system. State reporting is necessitating manual entries for what should be automated.

“We’re working on a bridge to get the two systems to talk,” Madamba said. “When we put the systems together, we want the least amount of friction for our Cosmopolitan customers and employees. We keyed off combining the systems and launching MGM Rewards in the first quarter of next year.”

Once the rewards program is in place, the Cosmopolitan’s customers will earn and redeem points across MGM’s 20 U.S. destinations.

“The Cosmopolitan will add an entirely new set of ways for gaming and non-gaming customers to enjoy all the moments MGM Resorts and Las Vegas have to offer,” said Steve Zanella, chief commercial officer for MGM Resorts.

Identity members will receive communications prior to the integration with detailed information about the transition to MGM Rewards, the company said. Until the transition, Identity members’ earnings will be recognized when determining their MGM Rewards tier status in 2024.

Identity members will retain their offers and benefits through January 31 and all Identity points will carry over to their membership with MGM Rewards consistent with the program rules.

Beginning on February 1, all MGM Rewards members will earn and use MGM Rewards points, slot dollars, and tier credits at the Cosmopolitan, including the resort’s array of accommodations, dining, entertainment, slots, and table games.

This announcement comes on the heels of MGM Resorts’ long-term licensing agreement with Marriott International and the creation of MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy.

The MGM Collection will launch in October and ultimately encompass 17 of MGM’s resorts, representing more than 40,000 rooms in Las Vegas and other cities in the U.S. In addition to being part of the MGM Collection, the Cosmopolitan will continue its relationship with Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection Hotels brand.
