MGM Resorts International said Thursday it will reopen its Empire City Casino in New York on Sept. 21. The property, located just 15 miles from Times Square in Yonkers, is the last of the company’s regional casinos to reopen.
Empire City, which is attached to the Yonkers Raceway, closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will reopen with a hosted, invitation-only access for some of the company’s MLife members ahead of the official reopening.
There will be restrictions on capacity and food and beverage availability, per state regulation.
New York’s governor allowed the state’s casinos to reopen this week.
“This has been an unimaginably difficult and challenging time, and as we reopen our doors and welcome back team members and guests, we owe our gratitude to all healthcare and essential workers and those providing resources to the community,” MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle said in a statement.
MGM Resorts also said Thursday it would reopen the Park MGM and Four Seasons in Las Vegas within the next 30-45 days. That move would result in the reopening of the company’s entire casino portfolio.
