Las Vegas-based Maverick Gaming said late Thursday it completed the purchase of Wizards Casino in Burien, Washington, marking the company’s 20th card room in the state.
Financial details weren’t disclosed. The casino adds to Maverick’s holdings in Washington, which now includes 300 table games.
The privately held company has been one of the most active casino operators in the acquisition market this year, completing several transactions for card room casinos in Washington, primarily in the Seattle market.
Earlier this month, Maverick, which operates four casinos in rural Nevada, announced plans to acquire three casinos in Colorado. The company is on the Colorado Division of Gaming’s November agenda for approval of the purchase.
Maverick CEO Eric Persson said in a statement the company is lobbying Washington to legalize sports betting.
“Our large portfolio of Casinos in Washington makes Maverick uniquely situated from a distribution standpoint should sports wagering become legalized, Persson said. “We believe Maverick’s geographic diversity coupled with our sports betting expertise, make the Maverick properties natural partners with the state in regard to sports wagering.”
