As the U.S. gambling industry expands, gaming analytics firm idPair is launching the first unified self-exclusion program in the United States.

“A national program has been needed for a long time,” said Marlene Warner, CEO of the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health. “With NSVEP, individuals will have a unified platform for seeking help and support across the United States. I encourage all state gaming regulators to join this initiative to provide a stronger safety net for consumers.”

Through a single registration, the National Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program enables players to voluntarily exclude themselves from brick-and-mortar and online gaming in multiple or all states, banning their access as they travel. Participants can choose the duration of their exclusion, including the option to set a lifetime ban. The program will also offer gambling resources and educational materials while generating new insights into problem gambling through anonymized data.

“Having an opportunity to engage with a tool using a single process across states will assist those using self-exclusion as a deterrent to gamble. It will help make self-exclusion easier to understand, which may increase engagement,” said Dr. Michelle Malkin, director of the Gambling Research and Policy Initiative at East Carolina University.

The NVSEP is set to debut in Massachusetts this summer, with plans to extend into other states as their respective regulators grant approval.

“I am thrilled that New England has the potential to lead the way with this remarkable step forward to a more seamless approach to voluntary self-exclusion,” Warner said.

Also this summer in Massachusetts, Bally’s is set to launch its Bally Bet sportsbook, the seventh mobile sportsbook app available to Massachusetts bettors.
