Maryland gaming revenue sets new record for third time in 2021

Gamblers in Maryland continue to wager record amounts at the state’s six casinos.

The state’s gaming operators combined to generate a monthly record of $180.1 million in revenue during July, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission. Records also were set this year in March ($169.1 million) and May ($172.4 million).

The July revenue total represents an increase of $40.2 million, or 28.7%, compared to July 2020 when casinos in the state were limited to 50% capacity due to COVID-19 health restrictions.

Casino gaming contributions to the state in July 2021 totaled $77.3 million, an increase of $19,377,754 (33.4%) compared to the $57.9 million contributed to the state in July 2020. Maryland’s Education Trust Fund earned $56.3 million from gaming sources, an increase of $12.8 million, or 29.4%, over the previous year.

As in June, MGM National Harbor in Forest Heights led all Maryland casinos in revenue with $72.3 million in revenue. That’s a 38.2% increase of $19.9 million from July 2020.

Live! Casino in Anne Arundel generated $62.9 million in revenue, an increase of $11.4 million, or 22.1%, year over year. Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino also saw a significant increase over July 2020, bringing in $19.3 million, a 22.4% jump.

Revenue at Ocean Downs in Berlin reached $10.5 million for the month, up 35.2%, or $2.7 million, year over year. Hollywood Casino in Perrysville increased revenue 25.3% to $8.8 million, plus $1.7 million from July 2020.

Rocky Gap in Flintstone saw an increase of $812,600, or 14.8%, to $6.3 million, year over year.
