Maryland casinos generate $161.5m in revenue during June

Gaming revenue in Maryland rose 13% in June compared to June 2019. The six casinos in Maryland generated a combined $161.5 million compared to $142.9 million in June 2019.

Gaming contributions to the state in June 2021 reached $67.6 million, a 13% increase compared to the $60.1 million accrued in June 2019. Contributions to Maryland’s Education Trust Fund were $49.1 million, a jump of 9% compared to June 2019’s $45.1 million.

The state uses 2019 figures as a comparison because its six casinos were closed in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maryland’s casinos were shuttered on March 16, 2020, and reopened at limited capacity on June 19, 2020. Full capacity was restored on June 17, 2021, but some social distancing restrictions remained for some slots and table games.

MGM National Harbor in Forest Heights led all Maryland casinos in June with revenue of $63.7 million, a jump of $6.8 million (12%) from June 2019. Live! Casino & Hotel in Arundel Mills brought in $58.4 million, a 19% increase from June 2019’s revenue total of $49.0 million.

Ocean Downs in Berlin saw revenue increase $2.0 million to $8.84 million from June 2019, a jump of 29%. Hollywood Casino in Perrysville brought in $7.71 million compared to June 2019’s total of $6.37 million, an increase of 21.1%. Revenue at Rocky Gap Casino in Flintstone also increased, from $5.13 million in June 2019 to $5.75 million, a 12.5% increase.

Only Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore saw revenue drop from June 2019, from $18.7 million to $17.0 million, a decrease of 9%.
