Louisiana: May gaming revenue totals $202.8 million, down slightly year-over-year

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board this week reported revenue of $202.8 million in May from the state’s riverboat casinos and Harrah’s New Orleans land-based casino. That’s a 2.2% year-over-year decrease, but a slight increase from the $200.7 million generated in April.

Revenue from online sports betting was $26.9 million from a handle of $178 million. Retail sports betting revenue was $2.7 million in May, with a handle of $15.8 million.

Lake Charles properties again led all Louisiana districts, generating revenue of $79.0 million, a 5.1% year-over-year increase. The properties in Lake Charles were the only Louisiana casinos to post year-over-year increases in May. Gaming revenue at Golden Nugget Lake Charles was $28.3 million, followed by L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles with $27.2 million. Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel generated revenue of $14.2 million and Horseshoe Lake Charles reported $9.3 million.

Shreveport/Bossier properties generated revenue of $49.9 million, a decrease of 9.5% year-over-year. Margaritaville Resort Casino posted revenue of $16.2 million, Horseshoe Bossier City reported $12.9 million, and Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel brought in $9.3 million.

New Orleans district properties posted revenue of $45.6 million in May, a year-over-year decrease of 5.6%. Harrah’s New Orleans led New Orleans properties with revenue of $21.7 million, and Boomtown Casino & Hotel generated $10.4 million. Treasure Chest Casino reported revenue of $7.3 million for the month.

Casinos in the Baton Rouge district generated $21.9 million for the month, a slight year-over-year decrease of 1.6%. L’Auberge Casino Hotel led the district with $16.0 million, Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge generated $4.8 million, and the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Hotel posted revenue of $1.1 million.

Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in St. Landry Parish generated revenue of $6.3 million, a decrease of 2.2% from May 2022.
