The Louisiana Gaming Control Board May 15 reported April revenue from the state’s riverboat casinos and Harrah’s New Orleans reached $200.7 million, compared to $218.8 million in April 2022. That’s a year-over-year decline of 8%.
April revenue from sports betting was $22.9 million based on a handle of $217.7 million. Online sports betting accounted for revenue of $21.6 million from a handle of $190 million. Revenue from sports betting at casinos was $1.8 million based on a handle of $19.7 million.
J.P. Morgan analyst Joseph Greff wrote in a note that April’s calendar was unfavorable, with nine weekend days in 2023 and ten in 2022. He added that the calendar in May is neutral with eight weekend days in 2023 and eight in 2022.
Lake Charles properties led all Louisiana districts with $76.7 million in April revenue, a slight year-over-year increase of 0.7%. L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles generated revenue of $27.1 million, followed by Golden Nugget Lake Charles with $26.1 million. Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel brought in revenue of $14.8 million. Horseshoe Lake Charles, formerly Isle of Capri Lake Charles, reported $8.7 million.
Properties in Shreveport/Bossier generated revenue of $50.3 million, a decrease of -10.3% year-over-year. Margaritaville Resort Casino generated $20.3 million, Horseshoe Bossier City reported $11.9 million, and Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel totaled $9.3 million.
New Orleans district properties accrued revenue of $45.3 million in April, a year-over-year decrease of -19.5%. Harrah’s New Orleans led New Orleans properties with revenue of $21.3 million, followed by Boomtown Casino & Hotel with $10.2 million. Treasure Chest Casino generated $7.3 million for the month.
Casinos in the Baton Rouge district generated $21.9 million for the month, a year-over-year decrease of -5.9%. L’Auberge Casino Hotel led the district with $16.3 million, Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge brought in $4.5 million, and the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Hotel, $1.1 million.
Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in St. Landry Parish generated revenue of $6.5 million, a decrease of -7.4% from March 2022.
