The DRA Wednesday announced the debut of Dubuque Rising with Alex Dixon: A Surprising Gem on the Mississippi. The new podcast series is hosted by Q Casino and DRA CEO and President Dixon, and will feature guests talking about the community founded in 1833.
Dubuque is home to the DRA, one of two gaming organizations in the U.S. established to benefit a local government entity.
“As a community, Dubuque has historically done a great job of coming together and working collaboratively toward big picture goals,” Dixon said in a statement. “And, from its beginning in 1985, the DRA has been on the frontlines, working hand-in-hand with the city and other community leaders to bring about positive changes.
“Through my conversations with key people, I want to reveal some of these stories and help paint a picture of what the future of Dubuque looks like, while also recognizing the importance of our community’s history and the journeys that have helped shape us.”
Dubuque Rising will feature four podcasts with members of the Dubuque community:
- Episode 1, July 19: The Origin features Gary Dolphin, an Iowa sports broadcaster and Dubuque-area business owner
- Episode 2, August 2: The Impact of Giving Back within the Community with Gary Stoppelman, executive director of the Dubuque Museum of Art, and Raquel McLellan of Dubuque’s Dream Center.
- Episode 3, August 16: Field of Possibilities features John Sutter, VP, Field of Dreams Operations.
- Episode 4, August 30: Rural America Today with Molly Grover, president of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, and Ali Fuller, founder of the Driftless Consulting Group.
“I am excited about sharing these conversations with everyone, as it is a diverse group of people, all with points of view worth listening to,” Dixon said. “DRA’s support of this endeavor is also another way for us to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to being a positive catalyst for constructive dialogue and affecting positive change in the community.”
