According to figures released by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, Iowa casinos raked in $141.5 million in gaming revenue in June, an increase of 24% over June 2020’s $113.8 million.
A full month-to-month comparison is possible because Iowa’s casinos reopened June 1, 2020 with restrictions after closing in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Statewide, slot revenue increased 19% to $128.7 million. Without restrictions, table game revenue doubled to $12.8 million from 2020’s $6.3 million.
Sports betting reached a handle of $111.2 million with online contributing $95.1 million of that, or 86% of overall handle. Overall, the casinos net $2.0 million in sports betting receipts for June, compared with just $621k in June 2020, a statistic hampered by lack of games to bet on and an in-person registration requirement for online betting.
Foot traffic increased 47% to 1.48 million over June 2020’s 1.01 million.
The state’s top three gaming revenue earners were Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino with $19.5 million, Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs with $16.3 million, and Ameristar II with $14.5 million posting 106%, 17%, and 20% gains respectively.
