The International Center for Gambling Tuesday announced the receipt of a $180,000 grant from BetMGM. The funding will be used for a research project focused on the impact advertising has on problem gambling.

“We are pleased to accept this historic contribution from BetMGM,” said ICRG President Arthur Paikowsky in a statement. “Findings from this evidence-based research study will allow us to better identify potential risks and guide best-practices for the gaming industry. We commend BetMGM for partnering with us to better inform the public, operators, regulators, legislators, and the media.”

BetMGM Senior Manager of Responsible Gaming Richard Taylor said the investment in responsible gaming research is critical to the gaming operator’s education and commitment to best-in-class experiences and programs, and to develop a “sustainable industry.”

“This groundbreaking research will not only provide valuable learnings to BetMGM, but will also serve as a guide for the industry and key stakeholders,” Taylor said.

The ICRG, established in 1996, has developed numerous studies on problem gambling, and published hundreds of articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Recently the non-profit organization released its initial findings from a sports wagering study conducted by Bowling Green State University in Ohio in JAMA Network Open, a journal of the American Medical Association.
