The emergent blockchain technology will likely have a dramatic impact on lives and businesses in the future, according to speakers at conference earlier this month in Reno.
In some cases, the changes are already underway, said speakers at The Gaming Standards Association Technology Summit – Focus on Blockchain, at the Nevada Museum of Art, Nov. 8-9.
Blockchain, speakers said, is poised to revolutionize data sharing and security and provide regulatory authorities with previously unobtainable levels of transparency.
The event featured a keynote address from Nevada State Senator Ben Kieckhefer, who represents the Reno area, as well as keynote speakers from the Berkeley Center for Law & Business, Oracle, IBM, AxesNetwork, BlockRE, MELCO, McDonald Carano and Alphaslot. Panels included representatives from Intel, Global Market Advisors, Loyra Abogados, the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement, and Secure Communication.
Conference attendees looking at how this technology will impact the gaming industry heard from companies currently using the blockchain and saw regulators debate the technology’s benefits and pitfalls.
“Blockchain provides reliable and trusted data, a single version of the truth, and allows designated individuals permissioned access to data in order to make rational well-informed business decisions,” said Richard Gordon, IBM Blockchain Business Development Leader. “The technology opens up new possibilities to address the challenges facing the Gaming industry across all aspects of the business, all in a distributed, fast, transparent, and highly secure way.”
GSA reports that the event received a very positive response from attendees, as reflected in an onsite survey. The most notable response from attendees was that the speakers at the event were of high quality and shared significant beneficial knowledge. Two Thursday morning tours of Switch Reno Tahoe, the world’s largest and most advanced data center campus in the world, were filled to capacity and also drew notable positive feedback.
GSA Chairman Roman Czubak of NOVOMATIC AG said, “The quality of speakers is what made this event a success. I congratulate the GSA staff on the excellent work done.
“The GSA Board of Directors will seek to expand on establishing more knowledge based educational events in 2019.”
NOVOMATIC AG was a Platinum sponsor of the conference.
“GSA provided a platform, and our speakers brought it to life,” GSA President Peter DeRaedt said.
GSA will continue to review the feedback from this event, as the organization determines its focus and venue for 2019. GSA members will again be eligible for free admittance.
Companies interested in sponsorship for 2019 should contact GSA directly.
