According to a recent Gambling Barometer survey in the regions of Bingen, Mainz, and Wiesbaden, consumers are regularly strongly confronted with advertising for online gambling. However, this market is not regulated and cannot, therefore, legally advertise.
The authors of the study on the digitization of gambling, recently published by the Handelsblatt Research Institute, are calling for regulation.
The study shows that only 18% of those surveyed recognised that advertising for online gambling is prohibited. The perception of a large volume of advertising suggests to the general public that online gambling is regulated and can be advertised accordingly.

“Unrealistic prohibitions are a disservice to player and youth protection… because the reality of life looks different,” says Dr. Daniel Henzgen, Managing Director for Policy and External Relations at Löwen Entertainment. The example of Denmark has shown that only comprehensive regulation of the entire gambling market can effectively protect the consumer.
A total of 1,000 online interviews were conducted for the Gambling Barometer.
