Every Human Resources division is familiar with the onboarding process and how it can be like a broken record: The faces of bewildered job candidates seated with that “deer in the headlights” look, and perhaps the somewhat jaded HR team going through the same paces as they have gone through with countless other classes.
It does not have to be that way, thanks to WYSR (pronounced “Wiser”), which is at the forefront of transforming the employee onboarding dynamic by modernizing employee management and development. The innovative approach created by WYSR brings energy and life into the process for the candidates and management teams alike by taking onboarding into the digital age.
WYSR, founded in 2022 and based in Las Vegas, created an online portal which provides employers with a centralized platform for employee training, team management, company operations, and onboarding.
CDC Gaming had an opportunity to join in on a conversation with Desiree Vincent, Vice President of Product Development, and Brenda Decker of the marketing team, to discuss how WYSR’s innovative approach alleviates first-day jitters and saves valuable management time by transitioning from outdated methods to efficient digital solutions.
“The majority of us that started the company come from the gaming world,” said Decker, vice-president of strategic marketing. “I spent 30 years in the industry. Gaming is our niche because it is an industry which needs and can benefit from our platform.
“There are many requirements within the gaming sector, or any other highly regulated industry, many boxes that need to be checked legally, which makes WYSR a natural fit. For example, compliance courses that must be taken annually such as Title 31, and other regulatory courses such as Alcohol Awareness, Responsible Gaming, and Harassment Training that vary from state to state.”
Vincent explained the process by which a customized plan can be created for the needs of specific clients.
“When we meet with a client for the first time, it is always to explore how we can be of service to our client, a ‘discovery’,” she said. “We like to become familiar with their specific needs and pain points and conduct a training needs analysis, asking questions such as ‘What are you offering your team members, and what are your goals?’ From there, we can talk about customizing and implementing a plan.”
Vincent explained there is a wide variety of courses available for clients to choose from, and they can also use the system for their own company playbooks, SOP’s, handbooks, and policies and procedures.
“In addition to training, another great tool on our platform is our policy and playbook bundle,” Vincent continued. “Brenda and I will meet with clients to discuss their particular needs, such as managing and storing their company-wide and departmental policies, tracking policy changes, and efficiently distributing the policies to team members digitally. WYSR streamlines this whole process.”
The WYSR platform incorporates Web-based virtual training performed online, which Decker said clients have really embraced and have experienced great success.
“WYSR has the ability for employees to log into their individual portals and register for a specific class, enabling them to participate in the live training or follow along virtually,” she explained.
A company’s onboarding process is frequently challenging, complicated by stress for new employees and time-consuming tasks for management. WYSR’s expertise modernizes the onboarding process by eliminating traditional methods that have become outdated and providing efficient digital solutions to align with specific company cultures.
Efficient policy and procedure management is ensured through the use of WYSR’s platform, which streamlines the creation, distribution, and tracking of the company’s policies, ensuring that all employees are well-informed without overwhelming managers.
“The WYSR platform enables the alleviation of paperwork, filing, and many other tasks associated with HR to allow the team to focus on what is really important,” Decker explained. “Our solutions pave the way for focusing on training, skills, development paths, and the specialized needs of specific departments.
“For example, if an HR department wishes to focus on guest services, WYSR can include all of the company’s specific guest standards in the training, add the company policy, and set this up as a smart profile, meaning this is automated and will all be taken care of electronically. This will eliminate paperwork, promote sustainability, and give our partners more time to develop other training, deal with other aspects of their job, and deliver the company policy digitally, thereby alleviating hours of scanning paperwork.”
The stress and first-day jitters for new employees is also eliminated via WYSR’s comprehensive onboarding tools. Essential but tedious information such as showing new employees where to park, what building to enter, a tour of the building, are all components of the solution.
Decker explained that the ultimate goal is to create a supportive environment bolstered by interactive modules, real-time support, real-life applications, videos, games, and quizzes that keep new employees engaged, relaxed, and receptive to the learning environment.
WYSR’s digital platform allows for new employees to complete onboarding forms and documents online while the digital platform communicates policy updates faster, which ultimately reduces employee stress levels while freeing up management time.
“More training delivered effectively and efficiently is our goal,” Decker added. “Allowing new employees to focus on the portal to see messaging, participate in e-learning, and register for webinars is a tremendous asset.”
Vincent explained that a 12-chapter course, for example, may be delivered in 30-minute or less increments so that the employee retains what they are learning. Blending WYSR’s e-training with the traditional classroom style of a live orientation can help prevent a new employee from being inundated with information.
“We streamline the onboarding process with online delivery,” Decker added. “New employees receive in-depth orientation to prepare them to report to the floor the next day and be prepared to perform their duties effectively and compliant with company standards.”
