The announcement earlier this year that Mindway AI integrated its award-winning Gamalyze tool into the DraftKings Responsible Gaming Center marks a major advancement for player protection in the North American market.
Rasmus Kjaergaard, CEO of Mindway Al, a leader in neuroscience-based responsible gaming solutions and a part of Better Collective, understands the significance of the partnership and the positive impact it has on DraftKings’ web environment for player protection and responsible gaming.
“Mindway AI has increased its operator-based coverage of the rapidly expanding North American market,” he said. “The global online gambling and sports betting market is growing. The need for deploying player protection measures is also increasing. One of the ways players can be protected is with our self-assessment tool solution Gamalyze. As a Danish company, it is a milestone to bring Gamalyze to DraftKings across all the North American jurisdictions where DraftKings operate.”
The collaboration builds upon DraftKings’ commitment to player education by adding a science-based gamified self-test to its suite of industry leading tools and resources.
According to statistics, the U.S. online gambling market is expected to grow from $6.89 billion in 2026 to $14.79 billion by 2031, with the sports betting segment expected to dominate.
Gamalyze, according to Kjaergaard, eliminates the bias that is common in traditional self-tests, saying “The Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) revealed a widely recognized bias in self-test questionnaires. The development of Gamalyze using neuroscience eliminates this bias.”
Gamalyze evaluates decision making during a simulated card game. It provides objective insights based on real behavior rather than self-reporting. This interactive, science-based experience is the perfect complement to DraftKings’ existing evidence-based responsible gaming tools and resources.
DraftKings is dedicated to combining technology and research to promote informed play. They also collaborate with research institutions, advocacy organizations, and industry regulators to advance responsible gaming education and awareness.
Mindway AI has firmly established a global presence with solutions in over 65 jurisdictions, including the U.S., UK, Brazil, Australia, and Malta. The company’s solutions detect more than 14.7 million active players monthly and Gamalyze is translated into 14 languages.
“Mindway AI has proven experience related to sports betting with both of our solutions, Gamalyze and GameScanner,” Kjaergaard said. “We have been operational with sports betting operators, including our home region of Europe.”
GameScanner is a software solution that helps gambling operators boost player protection through a unique combination of AI, neuroscientific insights, and expert assessments. This enables operators to intervene at an early stage and prevent at-risk gambling behavior from escalating.
“Gamalyze was our first solution,” Kjaergaard said. “It was developed in response to the established norm to assess gambling behavior, which were self-testing questionnaires. They were very frequently not answered truthfully.
“Gamalyze is a card game with four pre-shuffled decks that incorporate algorithms and logic. Participants are asked to flip cards from the decks. We know that from more than 100,000 games played, it takes between two and three minutes to flip 80 cards.
“After the game, the participant is prompted to do a self-assessment of their risk level. The player is shown the calculated risk level and insights into how it is distributed. Finally, advice is provided to the participant based upon the gambling behavior that was just shown.”
The sports betting market is unique in the number of leagues and team sports, frequency of wagers, and the wide variety of wagering possibilities.
“Our collaboration with DraftKings and our self-test solution is designed to track the risk and the decision making when gambling,” Kjaergaard said. “It tracks ‘risk appetite’. Problem gambling behavior can be traced to the part of the brain called the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, which processes decision making, risk, and fear.
“The goal with our solutions is to create the ‘full picture’ of individual gambling behavior. This integrates with the vertical of sports betting. Other factors with sports betting include age and gender.”
He revealed that the largest population of sports bettors in all markets in general is young males, which he also categorized as some of the most vulnerable.
“They are the ones who have a significantly high interest in sports and are very motivated to participate in betting on sports,” Kjaergaard explained.
