Focus on Light & Wonder: New Obsidian products delight both players and operators

Given that Light & Wonder has a formidable reputation in the global ETG market, it came as a real eye-opener last year when the company launched a novel approach to the sector with Obsidian Auto Roulette Pod.

Obsidian Auto Roulette Pod came to market with a trio of roulette options: Roulette, Roulette X, and Power X Roulette. There are multiple placements of the revolutionary product in the North American market throughout the United States. Light & Wonder is embarking on a larger footprint globally.

“Directly on the heels of us launching the Obsidian Auto Roulette Pod, we are unveiling the Obsidian Hybrid Stadium Solution,” revealed Robyn Brewington, Light & Wonder’s Executive Director Global Go-To-Market Strategy Table Games Division.

“Obsidian Hybrid Stadium Solution fits into a stadium environment, whether it is five terminals, 50 terminals, or 150 terminals. It operates in conjunction with Auto Roulette Pod for a seamless experience with the Obsidian product.”

Brewington said the Obsidian Auto Roulette Pod was the debut product in the Obsidian ecosystem, noting, “We really enhanced the server, which helps generate the consolidated and improved reporting for the operator, giving them significantly more thorough and in-depth    operational insights for their footprint.

“We expanded the game library to complement the comprehensive ecosystem for the Obsidian family,” she added. “The operator has the option to have one of the games, two of them, or all three if they choose. They can go from a standard view to a ‘racetrack view’. The two-level progressive jackpot creates a lot of enhancement and interaction for players.

“The lighting package surrounding the terminals allows for customization to enhance the ambiance and to create an inviting environment with our product.”

The emotive lighting reacts to wins and game states. The sleek modern design and ergonomic layout ensure player comfort and engagement, plus the dynamic LED lighting and edge display is sure to catch players’ attention.

Which sets the stage for the Obsidian Hybrid Stadium package with Baccarat, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Sic Bo, Craps, Stadium Blackjack, and Three Card Poker, along with additional titles featuring over 30 different and engaging side bets.

“We are launching Obsidian Hybrid, the next product in the ecosystem,” Brewington said. “We are extremely excited about this, not just in North America but globally. We know there is significant opportunity for the Obsidian ecosystem in North America, including Canada, but as well the Asian markets, Australia, New Zealand, and the EMEA markets.”

Brewington emphasized the fact that Light & Wonder was serious about making a concerted effort to have an ecosystem from which operators could choose and not merely a “one and done’.

“We hear loud and clear from our operators that they are very interested in the features and functionalities of our products,” she said. “They are streamlined, with the enhanced server for faster data streams. The player feedback has been strong as well, which has really fueled our desire to continue to build out our Obsidian family.

“Obsidian Hybrid is the Stadium solution for both our players and our operators. Here at Light & Wonder, we have the most robust library of popular table games in the live game space. It was a natural for us to make that transition and incorporate those popular live table games into the Obsidian Hybrid package.”

Brewington believes that Obsidian can attract players who traditionally favor the live table environment in addition to those who favor the ETG environment.

“I think it is fair to say that players are becoming more comfortable in the ETG space,” she said. “Post-COVID, we saw an enormous uptick in players at electronic game terminals. We are positioned strongly with a library of games to encompass both sets of players.

“There are guests who play in a live table space, but others who prefer more of that slot feel when they are playing by themselves. This is what the ETG experience really is all about. You get the camaraderie of the table activity in addition to an individualized experience.”

Concluding that Light & Wonder is building out a strong roadmap for operators to experience, Brewington hinted at the next Obsidian Solution that will be introduced later this year at G2E 2026.

“I cannot go on record at this time about what it is, but I can assure you it will really round out the entire Obsidian family of products,” she said.
