J Resort, a casino and resort in Reno, Nevada, was ready for a spectacular transition. Formerly the Sands Regency Casino, the operation was purchased by Jacobs Entertainment, and as part of their futuristic vision, Jacobs embarked on a major renovation.
The noted manufacturer was charged with finding the correct chairs for J Resort’s casino and dining areas. It was helpful that Gary Platt had worked with Jacobs Entertainment to provide seating in both Colorado and Nevada previously.
“It became a collaboration between their corporate office, the local folks, and us to come up with the perfect chair,” says Gary Platt National Sales Manager Mark Yurcisin.
It also was beneficial that Gary Platt had forged a long-standing relationship with Jacobs Entertainment Chief Operating Officer John East, who knew the quality of Gary Platt seating was aligned with Jacobs Entertainment’s vision for the J Resort.
“(East) said we need to ensure our seating matches the quality and comfort we are striving for in the rest of our finishes. While the art and entertainment will drive people to our property, casino seating will keep them here longer. ,” says Gary Platt CEO Joe Esposito. “And we want Gary Platt chairs in there to meet that need. He was very adamant about that, and he was very specific about the style of chairs.”
For the J Resort casino’s main floor, Lido Royale chairs on a pedestal base were selected. Savannah Royale chairs were selected for the high-limit room, and for the casino’s two bars, the Afterglow and the Pipeline, Bella barstools were deployed.
Yurcisin says the main consideration when selecting the various styles was comfort.
“What we do as far as tying it into the casino floor is literally the carpet, the wall covering, all the complementary items in the casino,” Yurcisin says. “There’s a color scheme that you come up with and make recommendations. In this case, they actually bought the upholstery on their own and they sent it to us.”
Esposito notes that about 25% of orders feature fabrics selected by customers.
“You have a variety of factors tied in,” Esposito says. “The color scheme, the overall design scheme of the floor, and what level of protection they want. They consider the look of the chair and how modern they want that to be. There are a whole bunch of things that go into that and work within that collaboration.”
For the property’s 24/7 Café restaurant, Hannah’s Table, similar attention to detail was employed to select 74 chairs for the dining area and 16 matching barstools. The Pesaro style of dining chairs and barstools were chosen for these areas.
While all customers are valued, Yurcisin and Esposito admit that there’s extra satisfaction in working with customers from Reno, where their headquarters is based.
“When you look at the vision that Jacobs Entertainment has outlined for Downtown Reno, they’re revitalizing and extending the downtown corridor, which is an area that’s been neglected over the years,” Yurcisin says. “Jacobs came in, and they are investing a lot of money in this market. The evolution of that area is really exciting to see.”
“Being part of a local property that went through such a big transition, we’re really proud of that,” Esposito says.
