The Austrian gambling company Novomatic has hired another political celebrity. Long-time Greens boss Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek has been head of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability since March 1st. She sees herself as a “responsibility manager” and wants to take care of environmental and legal issues as well as responsible gaming for Novomatic.
Having completed her post with the Greens, Glawischnig-Piesczek is not the first (ex-) politician to be hired at Novomatic. But the fact that a key figure from the Green Party is now working for Novomatic is likely to come as a surprise to many, as the Greens, especially in Vienna, have so far been extremely critical of various issues in gambling, and in particular of the practices of Novomatic as an operator.
Glawischnig-Piesczek acknowledged that she had voted against the Gambling Act in 2010 because it had not been strongly framed enough for the Greens back then. “My values remain the same… I cannot and will not give up my critical mind,” she explained.
