Malcolm Rutherford of eConnect will host the panel session “From Observation to Risk Intelligence: Modernizing Casino Security and Surveillance Through Data Integration,” March 31 at the Indian Gaming Association Tradeshow & Conference in San Diego.
Rutheford will be joined by Quick Custom Intelligence Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder Andrew Cardno to discuss practical strategies for modernizing surveillance through data integration, with a clear emphasis on real world application inside gaming environments.
The panel is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Rutherford, who is Executive Vice President of Strategic Operations at eConnect, will discuss with Cardno how teams used to monitor activity, investigate incidents, and review footage after the fact. That approach, while effective, precludes today’s operating environment, which is far more complex. Fraud schemes have become more sophisticated. AML expectations continue to increase. At the same time, gaming operations are generating more data than ever before, yet much of it remains siloed across separate systems.
A statement from eConnect notes that “this is where surveillance is beginning to evolve.” Operators are shifting from traditional monitoring to a more proactive model centered on risk intelligence. By bringing together video, transactional data, and identity, surveillance teams can move beyond isolated incidents and start identifying patterns across the entire operation.
This includes visibility into gaming activity, cash handling, employee behavior, and patron movement. Instead of asking what happened after the fact, teams can begin to understand why something happened and where similar risks may emerge.
Artificial intelligence and facial recognition allow operators to identify persons of interest, recognize repeat behaviors, and connect activity across multiple areas of the property. When integrated into existing systems, these tools enhance awareness without disrupting operations or increasing staffing demands.
eConnect also states that of equal importance is “the ability to break down data silos.” When surveillance, compliance, and operations are working from a shared set of information, investigations become faster, reporting becomes more accurate, and risk becomes easier to manage in real time.
“The evolution is not about replacing the human element. It is about equipping surveillance professionals with better information so they can make more informed decisions and respond more effectively.”
