DraftKings, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and hospitality investment firm LionGrove recently opened a DraftKings retail sportsbook at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino in Puerto Rico during the property’s four-year anniversary celebration.
DraftKings plans to introduce its online sportsbook within coming months, pending licensure and regulatory approvals. Puerto Rico joins 28 U.S. states where the company operates regulated sports betting, as well as Washington, D.C., and Ontario, Canada.
“Puerto Rico has an incredible sports culture and a deep connection to entertainment,” DraftKings President of Operations Paul Liberman said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to bring our retail sportsbook to the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino and look forward to providing eligible customers with a fun, seamless, and responsible way to engage with their favorite sports.”
Former New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada participated in the retail sportsbook’s opening with a ceremonial first bet and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The sportsbook includes sports betting kiosks, over-the-counter ticket windows, and a sports lounge.
