Circa Resorts & Casino in Las Vegas is reaching into Southern California for its first sports partnership. The adults-only casino, which opened in October 2020, Wednesday announced it reached a deal to be an official sponsor of the San Diego Padres.
“The Padres are one of the most exciting teams in baseball right now,” said Circa CEO and owner Derek Stevens in a statement. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of their upcoming season and to bring a piece of the Vegas action to San Diego.”
After signing pitchers Blake Snell and Yu Darvish in the offseason and inking young shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. to a 14-year, $340 million contract extension, the Padres are being touted as World Series contenders by William Hill US. The sportsbook lists San Diego third behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees for baseball’s championship.
“We are excited to expand our brand to the Las Vegas market and work with such a cutting edge and innovative property,” said Sergio Del Prado, San Diego Padres Senior Vice President, Partnerships.
The Padres had a connection to Las Vegas in the past. The then-Las Vegas Stars served as the Triple-A affiliate for the Padres from 1983-2000. The team is now known as the Las Vegas Aviators and is the Triple-A franchise of the Oakland A’s.
Circa is the first ground-up, all-new casino resort to open in downtown Las Vegas since 1980. Its sportsbook, touted as the world’s largest, holds up to 1,000 patrons who can view 19 games simultaneously on a 78-million pixel screen. Circa also features other spots for sports viewing, including MEGABAR with 45 double-stacked TVs, Stadium Swim, a pool amphitheater with a 143-foot diagonal LED screen, and a sports-themed bar, Victory Burger & Wings Co.
