The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation near San Diego on Tuesday announced its annual Sycuan Cup Golf Tournament at Singing Hills Golf Club June 4 raised $100,000 for four charities.
“I want to thank all attendees for your support because it has enabled Sycuan to raise $100,000 for four incredible nonprofits,” Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation Chairman Cody Martinez said in a statement. “Together, we’re making a difference and strengthening the lives of those who need it the most.”
During an awards ceremony, the Sycuan Tribal Council presented $25,000 to each nonprofit including:
- SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services): The organization transforms communities to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth and families throughout San Diego County. Their services and supports — based in the strengths of local communities — assist those throughout the region reach their fullest potential and touch the lives of more than 50,000 each year.
- HorsePlay: A group of professionals committed to providing equine-assisted coaching and therapy to trauma survivors at low or no cost, the Horseplay Collective is building Reciprocity Ranch to bring their mission to life. The nonprofit believes they can heal the community by using the uniquely powerful connection between humans and equines in nature.
- War Party Ranch: A 501(c)3 non-profit that provides opportunities for women and girls to create working and life skills that foster independence and self-reliance in all aspects of their lives.
- Elymash Yuuchaap Scholars and Leaders Program at the Native Resource Center at San Diego State University: The organization’s mission is to engage, support and promote the cultural, social, academic, and leadership development of students committed to the sovereign identity and progress of Indigenous communities.
The Sycuan Band annually hosts the Sycuan Cup, selecting new nonprofits each year that serve the San Diego community and beyond. During the tournament, attendees enjoy a day of golf, network opportunities, breakfast and an awards ceremony, followed by a dinner.
