The California Gambling Control Commission has announced Lisa Wardall as its executive director.
Most recently, Wardall was the assistant director of the California Department of Justice’s Bureau of Gambling Control, which involved developing policies and procedures related to the effective regulation of gambling in California. She has also been a staff services manager III in the Division of Law Enforcement’s Office of the Chief, overseeing the division’s $203 million budget and other administrative functions. She also was a senior manager within the Bureau’s Licensing Branch from 2014 to 2019, overseeing the completion of background checks for various licensing types.
Wardall takes over for Stacey Luna Baxter, who is now CGCC commissioner after serving as executive director since November 2015, the longest tenure in the Commission’s history.
Founded in 2001, the CGCC is the regulatory body over gambling establishments, Third-Party Providers of Proposition Players Services and tribal casinos across the state.
